Class description

In this two-day class, you will learn how to sharpen a range of woodworking tools using a variety of methods.

From learning how to create razor-sharp edges using traditional water stones and slip stones to using a high-speed grinder, honing guides, and using modern slow speed wet grinders (Tormek).

We will cover sharpening bench chisels, plane blades (bench, block, shoulder), card scrapers, router plane, marking knives and turning tools.

Students undertaking this course are highly encouraged to bring in their own tools to be sharpened. At Wood Academy, we will have tools that you can sharpen, but wouldn’t it be better if you finished the course with your own tools — razor sharp and planes that create thin curly shavings!

Please bring these recommended tools:
– A Cast Iron Western Style bench plane #4, #4 1/2, #5 or #5 1/2 (Japanese style planes (Kanna) and Western Wooden planes are fine too)
– A Cast Iron Western Style block plane
– Chisels
– Cabinet Scraper
– Spokeshave
– Marking Knifes
– Kitchen Knifes
– Turning Chisels

If you have any Japanese waterstones or European oil stones, please bring them in and you can dress them during the class.

Suitable for beginners with no experience up to intermediate students. Children 14+ are welcome to participate in this course.

Please note, we require a parent or guardian to be on the premises for the duration of the class if a minor is attending.
